The Green Diamond Club (a Member of British Water Ski and Wakeboard) has a very active water-ski section based at Queenford Lakes, Burcot Lane, near Berinsfield, off the A4074 (Berinsfield roundabout) east of Abingdon, south of Oxford and the postcode is OX10 7PQ. There is a sign on Burcot Lane for the Oxford Waterski Club, drive through the main gate, carry on into the car park and the brown cabin with the green roof facing the lake is where you'll find us.

The lakes are privately owned by Stuart Ely, a very competent and keen skier and great friend and supporter of the GDs. We have access to the main lake and a smaller lake, separated by a causeway, with a six buoy slalom course.
We share the main lake and slalom course with the Oxford Wakeboard and Ski Club and Stuart has access to the lake in his boat. So, there is a maximum of three boats on the lake at any one time, but two is the norm.
The section runs on the understanding that Weekend Leaders fill their weekend with a minimum of 12 skiers and 2-3 drivers per day. On this basis the revenue earned will be sufficient to keep the section running from year to year. We rely on people committing to turning up and mucking in with the weekend activities. We encourage people to ski for a whole weekend but just coming for the day is fine too. We actively encourage children to come along too. Our tariff is a simple pay per ski with children/junior and adult member and non member rates. See TARIFF on Main Menu.
Our unique club provides patient tuition and all our boat drivers are SBDA qualified. There is no need to pre-book slots and we don't have fixed time limits either. A 'ski' is three laps of the lake or six passes on the slalom course. Skiing takes place usually from 9am to sunset on Saturdays and Sundays. Mid-week sessions can also be booked on bank holidays and others by special request.

We provide skis, wake-boards, wetsuits and life jackets for use by all skiers and boarders.
We have a well-equipped Clubhouse (also built by members) for catering and relaxing.
There is a decked area (again built by members!) in front of the Clubhouse facing south-west so the view of the lake and the sunshine can be enjoyed all day and evening.
Skiers and boarders just need to turn up with a swimming cozzy, towel, suntan cream!, lunch and tent/bedding if they are staying overnight. We have exclusive use of a male and female toilet in our changing room/ shower block. So all creature comforts are catered for.
Dogs are welcome providing they are kept under control and more importantly cleaned up after!
There is ample space to pitch tents and ample parking spaces in the car par by the lake.
If you prefer a solid roof over your head click on 'Links' for details of local accommodation.
After a day on the water we tend to have a BBQ or there are good pubs nearby.
The emphasis is on having fun, socialising and enjoying the lake-side environment whilst enjoying this unique opportunity to water-ski and wake-board in a relaxed and friendly enironment.
A FAMILY FUN WEEKEND is held every season and we welcome families and children of all ages to come along and meet members, catch up with old friends and see the section in action. This years event will be held on 26th-27th July. Why not come along and see us.
Many of the children have been coming to the lake since they were babies or toddlers but whether it's their first ski weekend or they are regulars, they all get on very well and make lots of new friends.
How do I go about joining a weekend?
The same rules apply to the water-skiing section as to all the other Green Diamond Sections; a weekend booking can only be made by a GD member. We actively encourage new skiers but a slightly higher fee is charged for non-members. New skiers are welcome on all weekends, the weekend leader will be only too pleased to welcome you. Membership can be taken out at any time of the year in order to take advantage of the reduced rates and benefits of all three sections of the club. Members tend to join via personal recommendation but two existing GD members need to approve and sign off the application.
Please click on 'Availability' for up todate weekend dates and who to contact to book or join a weekend.
Safety First - All our drivers must be Green Diamond and BWS members and be on our list of SBDA qualified drivers - safety is paramount!
Driver Days are held every year for those experienced drivers who are ready to take their SBDA test and for all drivers to brush up on their driving skills.
What if I cannot ski?
This is not a problem! None of us could ski or board at one point and over the years we have learnt and in turn, taught others. We have a training bar to go along side the boat which is great for beginners of all ages.
We have great success teaching children to waterski and Beatrice (6) achieved her Bronze Award in the BWS Cutting Edge Coaching & Development scheme.
Children of all ages love the club and are always keen to improve their skiing/boarding whilst enjoying time spent with their GD pals.
Maintenance of the boat and facilities
At the end of the weekend we are all expected to help out by clearing up and cleaning the Clubhouse, equipment store, shower block and boat, ready for the following weekend.
Mike Smith looks after the running of the boat but there are general maintenance procedures in a manual in the Clubhouse which have to be followed by the Weekend Leader. Dawn Elkington oversees the weekend bookings, supports Weekend Leaders and deals with finances and the management of the section.
With the support of other GD members they work hard to ensure that everyone enjoys their time at Queenford... see you there this Summer!
